EMANUEL MESHVINSKI

composer | violinist | violist

ABOUT

Emanuel Meshvinski, born in 2002 into a musical family in Hamburg, began his violin lessons at the age of four. At the age of 13, he was admitted as a young student in the viola department at the Musikhochschule Köln (Cologne University of Music). Together with his parents, he performed numerous concerts around the world, including in South Africa, the USA, and Cyprus.

In 2019, he started studying viola and composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (University of Music and Theater Hamburg) and a year later, he won the second prize in the Elise Meyer Foundation’s internal competition. In 2021, he transferred to the Zurich University of the Arts to study composition for film, theater, and media.

Emanuel composes works for concert settings as well as theater productions, animated films, and short films. His music has been recorded by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and has been featured at various festivals in Switzerland, Belgium, the USA, and other countries. In 2023, he was awarded a composition prize by ESTA Switzerland for his work „Romance for String Quintet.“

Following his father’s passing in late 2021, Emanuel took over the leadership of the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Hamburg, an ensemble focused on the marginalized works of Jewish composers from the Nazi era. With the goal of bringing this forgotten music back to life, he regularly organizes concerts in and around Hamburg and has collaborated with renowned actors such as Iris Berben, Peter Lohmeyer, and Jens Wawrczeck as part of this project.
